About the Toyota Celsior
The Celsior was Toyota's JDM flagship throughout its three-generation production run, sold globally as the Lexus LS400 (XF10/XF20, 1989-2000) and LS430 (XF30, 2000-2006) but marketed under the Toyota Celsior badge in Japan with JDM-specific equipment levels, different pricing, and a separate dealer channel. The XF10 introduced a unified luxury sedan philosophy: V8 power, rear-wheel drive, emphasis on cabin isolation, and a weight reduction relative to other full-size luxury sedans of the same era.
XF10 and XF20 use the 1UZ-FE 4.0L V8 (193kW in XF10; VVT-i added in XF20 from 1997 for 210kW). The XF30 upgrades to the 3UZ-FE 4.3L V8 at 213kW, with adaptive air suspension standard on C-spec and higher trims. JDM-exclusive equipment across all three generations includes radar adaptive cruise control (a market-first feature in the XF10), variable power steering, and a back-guide monitor in XF30. B-specification and C-specification designators indicate JDM equipment tiers, covering heated and cooled seats, navigation, and rear entertainment options.
XF10 models from 1989 are US-eligible. XF20 from 1994 entered eligibility from 2019. XF30 from 2000 enters eligibility from 2025. Right-hand drive. The 1UZ-FE and 3UZ-FE are among the more mechanically reliable large-displacement V8 engines in JDM production; documented wear items at higher mileage include timing belt tensioner condition and differential oil seal seepage. Parts compatibility with the Lexus LS400/LS430 applies to mechanical components; interior trim and electronics are often JDM-specific.
